Overview
The Tempered Room is a locally owned and operated pâtisserie in downtown Toronto. They have an extensive catering business on top of their day-to-day shop operations which keep the residents of Parkdale and beyond well fed with delicious Parisian inspired eats.
Web features & details
The site uses Wordpress for the CMS (modified CSSIgniter Carbone theme).
Redesign and overhaul
The homepage was originally a hard coded custom page, and was literally the only page on the site aside from some linked PDFs. It was beautiful, but lacked functionality. The host was migrated and we started anew with WordPress, recreating the homepage almost exactly using Elementor. Additionally, dynamic elements like Google Maps and Reviews were introduced.
The bigger project was creating the rest of site. Where there was nothing before, we now have sections dedicated to catering, testimonials, menus and a blog. There is also some social media integration (Instagram feed).
Business intake forms
Critical to the business is the catering intake form, which was experiencing glitches for some time before the redesign. Now potential clients’ requests are correctly forwarded to the catering director, and the site contains several calls to action that flow a user towards this important, revenue generating form.
Future plans: online shop
A next major step is integrating an online store whereby people can place and pay for select shop orders. This project is expected to occur in late 2019 or early 2020.
Creative & design
I developed most of the site copy and leveraged a large amount of existing brand photography to populate content. We did commission and manage some new photography. A fair amount of basic photo editing went into elements of the site, especially for menu items that have small thumbnail images.
